Does your living room feel too dark? Here are some great tips for better lighting.

So your living room looks great but every time you sit down to read, or when you entertain guests in the evening it just feels too dark. Here are a few ideas to keep in mind when brightening up the room.

1) Layer your lighting: Incorporate multiple layers of lighting to create a well-balanced and versatile lighting scheme. Use a combination of ambient (general), task, and accent lighting. This allows you to adjust the lighting levels based on different activities or moods.

2) Use adjustable fixtures: Opt for fixtures that offer adjustable settings such as dimmers or three-way bulbs. This allows you to control the brightness and create different atmospheres in the living room. Dimming the lights can add a cozy and relaxing ambiance, while brighter lighting is ideal for tasks like reading or entertaining.

3) Consider natural light: Maximize the natural light in your living room by keeping windows unobstructed and using light-colored window treatments or sheer curtains. Natural light not only enhances the overall lighting but also creates a more inviting and spacious atmosphere. However, also be mindful of glare and use blinds or curtains to control it when needed.

4) Select the right light bulbs: Choose the appropriate light bulbs for each lighting fixture. Opt for warm or soft white bulbs (around 2700-3000 Kelvin) to create a cozy and comfortable ambiance. Avoid harsh, cool-toned bulbs, as they can make the room feel cold or sterile. LED bulbs are energy-efficient and offer a wide range of color temperatures to suit your preferences.

5) Add accent lighting: Incorporate accent lighting to highlight specific features or areas in the living room, such as artwork, shelves, or architectural elements. Use adjustable spotlights, wall sconces, or track lighting to draw attention to these focal points. Accent lighting adds depth and visual interest to the space, creating a more dynamic and inviting environment.

Remember, lighting should be adaptable to different needs and activities in your living room and should help you turn it into a place you will love to come home to.
